Holly’s Story
When Holly, age 24, came to Jessie’s House, she was the mother of two and had just learned during a routine medical exam that she was five months pregnant with her third child. She and her children had been living with Holly’s mother, but as their relationship deteriorated, Holly felt a need to find a place of her own. Here’s her Jessie’s House experience in her own words:
“The holidays were a week away, so I made some phone calls to find a place to stay. Jane from Jessie’s House called me back just after Thanksgiving. I found a place to stay with my kids. The staff helped me settle in and I met everyone who was staying there. It took me a little while to get the hang of things. But I had a staff member who worked with me on getting bills paid, saving money, and getting any services I needed for me and my children.
“I was still living at Jessie’s House when my daughter was born, and my Jessie’s House case worker was there for me when I needed someone the most, because my mom didn’t come up to the hospital until the next day. Once housing opened up, we went and applied and it didn’t take long for them to place me in a three-bedroom apartment.
“I was at Jessie’s House a total of six months. It has been two years now that I’ve been in my own place and things are good. So if you read this and you need a little help, don’t hesitate to call Jessie’s House. They will help you.”
