Healing Arts Festival
Tuesday June 11, 2013
The Center for Human Development (CHD) will host its first Healing Arts Festival on June 11 from 11:30am to 1:30pm at One Financial Plaza in Springfield, MA. The event will feature an array of arts, crafts, and food vendors as well as a live band. Much of the work will have originated with local people who utilize art as a form of therapy.
The Healing Arts Festival will highlight artwork from several CHD programs, including Health and Wellness, Juvenile Justice, and Mental Health and Addiction Services. CHD’s Disability Resources will demonstrate their adaptive sports program and CHD’s A New Leaf will sell plants and flowers. A raffle for artwork will benefit CHD.
Additionally, the Western Massachusetts Training Consortium will have a table displaying works from the Riverside Arts Program, a recording booth for attendees to visit, and other independent artists’ works. Community vendors will sell soaps, furniture, farm goods, jewelry, paper works, and pottery.
Local eateries Elegant Affairs and Palazzo’s Café will be selling lunchtime treats with 10% of sales benefitting CHD. To top it off, musical group BayRd will be playing their “smooth melding of Funk, Blues, and Rock with an occasional foray into Reggae.”
The space is being donated by CHD board chair Evan Plotkin of NAIPlotkin, a local patron of the arts. By helping to organize this event, Plotkin hopes to help highlight the vitally important work CHD provides to the local community, while celebrating the arts in Springfield.
This event is free and open to the public.
