How To Volunteer

There is a tremendous need in Hampden County for CASA volunteers.  Each year several hundred children are seen by the Juvenile Courts in Springfield and Holyoke.  Many of these children are victims of abuse and neglect.  They don’t have what many of us take for granted:  an adult in their life who is willing or able to advocate for their best interests.  CASA volunteers fill this need by keeping the judge informed on what is in the child’s best interests.

If you are interested in volunteer opportunities, we would love to talk to you.  The process is simple:

1. Call the CASA office at (413) 781-2272 and request an application package.  You can also do so by email:  casa@chd.org or download our application by clicking here.

2. After we receive your application you will be called for a personal interview.  The interview helps to exchange information to ensure this is a good match for everyone.

3. Complete our CASA training program.  New classes are scheduled about every 2 months.  You will be in a class with a number of new volunteers like yourself.

4. At the end of the training you will be sworn in by a Hampden Juvenile Court Judge. You will then have an opportunity to review files of local children and begin your advocacy work.
