Be A Big

Who really volunteers? PEOPLE LIKE YOU!
Our volunteers are 18 to 80 years old, and come from all walks of life- students, carpenters, lawyers, nurses, mechanics and grandmas. Each gets a break from his or her everyday life, a new friend, and a constant reminder that life is supposed to be fun.

How much time does it take? NOT MUCH AT ALL!
As a Big Brother/ Big Sister you will spend just 3-5 hours a week with your little, enriching your own life while enhancing the life of your young friend. Your match is supported through available trainings and workshops and regular contacts with a staff member.

What does a mentor do? BE A FRIEND!
A Big Brother or Sister spends quality time (3-5 hours a week) with a child- doing fun things and hanging out. Most any activity you enjoy can be shared with a child- golfing, fishing, cooking, gardening. Rediscover the fun of skipping rocks, playing ping-pong or taking hikes. Take the time to visit the science museum or see a movie. Experiment with drawing cartoon characters or designing a web page. The staff will gladly give you lots of ideas for no or low-cost activities. It's the friendship and time you give that counts.

How do I apply? CALL OR EMAIL US!
Call if you are curious, interested, or ready to apply. We'll gladly answer all questions and invite you to come to an orientation/ information session to learn more and to fill out an application. The next step is the interview and screening process, similar to the one done with prospective Littles and their families, so that we can make the best possible match.
